Between the holiday cards on bookstore shelves and commercials marketing the hottest items of the year, it is easy to see that the season for giving is upon us again. This year consider a gift that is outside the typical gift wrapped box.
The Roots of Development monthly donation campaign gives supporters the opportunity to give a gift that continues giving throughout the year. The goal is for 200 people to pledge $20 a month or more. Currently, we have 32 members that have pledged from $10-100 monthly.
Funds donated through this campaign will be a financial catalyst for the Roots goals in Haiti. Director Chad Bissonnette said “For me it is the most important and effective way to give, simply because it is money we can rely on. I have seen too many promises made to the poor that aren’t kept- people with big hearts traveling in developing countries that sometimes make commitments to things that become less and less of a reality once they get back home and back to the reality of their daily lives.”
As part of our core mission, Roots of Development does not start projects unless we know that we can see them through to the end. In order to make this level of commitment to the community, we need to know that the funds are there to back the project through completion. Bissonnette added, “Recurring donations allow us to know how much money we will have coming in next month, and, in some ways, over the next year. It is only with those funds that I am able to make real commitments and sustainable promises to the communities we work with.”
Funds donated through this campaign will be a financial catalyst for the Roots goals in Gran Sous and neighboring communities. Meeting our goal of 200 donors guarantees an incredible $48,000 to devote to our work in Haiti. That kind of support could construct a healthcare facility to serve tens of thousands of people and still have funds left over to ensure the sustainability of the facility.
